Phase 2: Situation and Baseline Analysis 25 May 2009 – 4 September 2009

The core research that will inform the waste management strategy will be performed in phase 2. The key inputs for the consultative process are the agreed baseline research reports which will be published for public comment on the web-site once they have been approved by DEAT.

The Phase 2 stakeholder meeting will be focused on drawing out the implications of the baseline research for the waste management strategy, and thereby informing the production of a synthesis paper that forms the primary outcome of phase II. During the stakeholder meeting group sessions will be convened based on the key issues arising out of the baseline studies, and some or all of these groups sessions will form the basis of ongoing work areas and discussion forums on the web-site, with appropriately broader participation.

The timeline of events for the consultation process in phase 2 is as follows:

• July 20, 2009 – Reports published on the web-site for public comment
• July 30, 2009 – Stakeholder workshop
• August 8, 2009 – Deadline for public comments
• August 28, 2009 – Synthesis paper submitted to DEAT for approval
